Original article: Tras caso «Cuota Flores»: Senadora Campillai pide fortalecer mecanismos de control que garanticen el buen uso de los recursos públicos en el Senado Senator Fabiola Campillai has sent a letter to the Senate Ethics Committee requesting that «all necessary actions» be taken to prevent the «misuse of public resources and parliamentary associations. » This request comes in the wake of an investigation by the Valparaíso Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office into Senator Camila Flores, who allegedly devised a scheme to appropriate public funds by requiring her congressional staff to pay part of their salaries in cash for personal use. «Recently, the media reported on a segment by Canal 13 detailing possible irregularities involving the use of parliamentary allocations.
Although these actions reportedly did not occur within our institution, we must implement preventive measures to ensure it doesn’t happen. The damage to credibility and reputation affects all of us in public office,» stated Campillai in her letter. «Therefore, I request that you evaluate the possibility of proposing timely measures to strengthen oversight and prevent such incidents in the future,» the document addressed to Julio Cámara Oyarzo, the acting Secretary General of the Senate Ethics Committee, concludes.
