Rancagua: Preventive Detention for Police Officer Accused of Illegal Coercion and Unjustified Gunfire

During the formalization hearing (case roll 8. 677-2026), Judge Loreto Salas Cortés mandated the accused’s admission to the Pudahuel Transitory Detention Center, citing «flight risk.
» A new hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, May 28, where the possibility of bail will be discussed. Additionally, a period of 70 days has been allotted for the investigation. Meanwhile, regarding the co-defendant in this case, the officer identified by the initials M.
M. R. , it was reported that he faces charges for his involvement in the committed crimes of illegal coercion and falsification of public instruments, both also committed in the same commune and at the same time.

, the prosecution requested national pretrial detention and a prohibition on approaching or communicating with the victims, measures that Judge Salas Cortés ordered as appropriate and proportional to the aims of the legal process,» the Judicial Power bulletin states. Moreover, the Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated that «following the entry, search, and arrest order executed yesterday, May 19, 2026, officers found and seized two modified blank-firing pistols, suitable for live firing, at O. S.
G. ’s residence,» thus adding the charge of illegal possession of firearms. According to the prosecuting entity, during the night of November 2, 2025, O.
S. G. and M.
M. R. , while conducting a police operation, assaulted the driver and passenger of a vehicle, during which O.
S. G. unjustifiably fired a shot into the air.
Subsequently, the defendants created a false police report, falsely accusing the driver of assaulting police officers and driving under the influence of alcohol. We will continue to provide updates.
