Original article: Día de la Tierra: WWF Chile llama al Gobierno a avanzar en revisión de decretos ambientales y permitir que los procesos sigan adelante As Earth Day is celebrated, WWF Chile, the international organization, has called for continued efforts in protecting the country’s biodiversity. Each April 22 since 1970 serves as a reminder to reflect on our relationship with the planet and our shared responsibility to safeguard the nature that sustains life. The central theme for the 2026 observance is «Our Power, Our Planet,» highlighting the collective responsibility to confront the triple environmental crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution.

“For a country like Chile, the conservation of ecosystems and species should be a priority, not only for the future and health of nature but also for the well-being of its people and the sustainable, resilient development we aspire to as a society,” stated Ricardo Bosshard, director of WWF Chile. In this context, the international NGO anticipates continued implementation and advancement of environmental regulations, many of which are currently under review following the withdrawal of supreme decrees awaiting approval by the General Comptroller of the Republic. “We hope that the review of these decrees progresses and allows processes to continue, particularly regarding the implementation of the National Service for Biodiversity and Protected Areas (SBAP), which we have supported from the start and will continue to advocate for, along with other important matters like the regulations governing the Recovery, Conservation, and Management Plans for Species (RECOGE),” commented Bosshard.

“On this Earth Day, we invite everyone to reaffirm their commitment to building a sustainable and prosperous future for both people and nature—a task in which we all have a role and actions to take, including decision-makers in both the public and private sectors, communities, and civil society,” concluded Bosshard.
