Bolivia in Turmoil: Mass Protests Escalate as Rodrigo Paz’s Government Faces Crisis
Original article: Rebelión en Bolivia: Crecen las movilizaciones y se agudiza crisis en gobierno de Rodrigo Paz Mass Protests Rock Bolivia: Blockades and Shortages Bolivia is currently experiencing one of its most significant social and political crises in recent years. For over a week, the country has been gripped by protests, road blockades, clashes with police forces, and increasing pressure on President Rodrigo Paz’s government, exacerbated by fuel shortages, inflation, and economic decline. The protests initially erupted in response to the controversial Law 1720, which allowed the use of agricultural land as financial collateral.
Despite the Parliament repealing the law, the protests continued, with demands expanding to include wage increases, a dollar shortage, and rising costs of essential goods. This past weekend saw striking images of massive gatherings from labor, peasant, and indigenous sectors. The Bolivian government has called for dialogue to reach a consensus on a «work plan,» while opposition groups and social organizations demand Paz’s resignation, who took office just six months ago.
See the documentation of the protests: EPICA ROSARIO Gustavo Petro: «Bolivia is Experiencing a Popular Insurrection» Colombian President Gustavo Petro addressed the Bolivian crisis on Sunday through his account on X. He stated that the neighboring country is experiencing a “popular insurrection” and expressed his government’s willingness to contribute to a peaceful resolution to the conflict. “Bolivia is living a popular insurrection.
This is a response to geopolitical arrogance. Latin America is a diverse and unique civilization that cannot be homogenized from anywhere on the planet,” Petro wrote. He also emphasized that there should be no political prisoners on the continent.
“My government is ready, if invited, to explore peaceful solutions to the Bolivian political crisis,” the president affirmed.
